Electronic Verification of Rent is an online service for housing providers to help manage customer rent payments. It is used to verify and update your tenants rent details with Centrelink so that they continue to receive the Commonwealth Rent Assistance payment when there is a change in rent and eliminates the need for the tenant to sign a new rent certificate when there is a change in rent.
This solution details the process of:
- Check clients have appropriate data and permissions entered
- Create the export file to send to Centrelink
Check clients have appropriate data and permissions entered
All tenants who have consented to your organisation using the EvoR service need to have certain permissions checked and data entered to their screen in order for the data to be confirmed and sent back to Chintaro from Centrelink.
If you tenant has approved of you using EVoR, they need to have the following entered into their client screen (EVoR can only be submitted for current tenants):
Field | Description |
Given Name | Must match exactly to what Centrelink have on their database |
Surname | Must match exactly to what Centrelink have on their database |
Date of Birth | Must match exactly to what Centrelink have on their database |
CRN | Must match exactly to what Centrelink have on their database |
CRA Changes (EVoR) | Tick indicates the client consents to using this service. |
Verify the Tenancy Type
For cases where the rent is being split among two or more renters, the appropriate Tenancy Type needs to be entered in order for Centrelink to pick this data up.
To enter the tenancy type, navigate to the tenancy details, then into the reporting tab:
The data in this dropdown is contained in the NAHA Tenancy Type reference table:
- N = No split
- P = Partnered, split
- Y = Joint, split
Create the export file to send to Centrelink
To create a single CSV file containing client information to send to Centrelink, from the Home screen, click Finance > Centrelink Functions, and Electronic Verification of Rent (EVoR):
Field | Description |
Output Folder | Select the folder that the CSV file will be saved in, by clicking the ... button |
File Name | Enter the name that the file will be saved as |
Organisation CRN | Defaults to your organisation's CRN in System Maintenance > Preferences > Organisation Details |
User ID | Defaults to the user ID in System Maintenance > Preferences > Organisation Details |
Date of Deduction | Enter the Date of Deduction/CRA Changes. This must be at least 15 days in to the future. |
Rent Amount | Select either ‘The rent amount as the deduction date’ or ‘The “New Rent” Amount’ |
Adjustments | Some tenants will have other charges, arrangements or ASL's in addition to their 'Rent amount' that they are charged. Due to this fact, the EVoR screen in Chintaro enables users to choose if the amount that they are uploading to Centrelink is 'Rent Only' or if it includes these other amounts. |
Click Select All to Include all Clients, or individually tick the Include box for those Clients you want to include in the export. Click Export and Chintaro will advise you the file has been created successfully in the location you populated.
You can then upload the EVoR file to Centrelink.
Centrelink monitor the EVoR service from 7:00 am to 8:45 pm Monday to Friday AEST, except on national public holidays. If a user needs help using EVoR, they can contact the Centrelink Confirmation eService for business helpdesk. They’re open from 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday AEST.
