Setting up SMS functionality

If you wish to send SMS's from Chintaro, you first need to create an account with a third party SMS provider. Chintaro currently supports several Third Party SMS providers, all of which are as follows:

Once you have an account set up with one of the above providers, you will need to enter your credentials into Chintaro. The information you are required to enter will differ depending on the provider (see table of contents below). This solution details:


Setting up an SMS Account 

This section details how to set up an account with one provider - SMS Broadcast. The steps involved in creating an account may differ slightly with every SMS provider. 


1. Go to the website (www.smsbroadcast.com.au) and create an account. You will need to put some credit on the account before you can send SMS's.


2. Once logged in, navigate to Configuration > API Settings. Then click Create new key. Follow the instructions and setup a username and password. 



3. Using the details created in Step 2, enter the Username and Password into Chintaro's SMS Configuration fields (see below)


Entering the SMS setup information into Chintaro (For all providers except Burst or Message Media REST API)

In Chintaro, from the Home Screen > System Maintenance > Preferences > SMS:




Select the SMSProvider (3rd Party Provider) from the drop down list. 


Enter the SMSUserID as the Username from your SMS Provider's website.  **Note - the username isn't your email address.  It may be under API settings on the website and may look like a password as well.


Enter the SMS Password as the password from your SMS Provider's website.

The SMS Sender (Default) field is the name of your Organisation that will appear on the SMS when your Client/Tenant/Tradesperson receives it. You are limited to 11 letters or numbers in this field, and you cannot use special characters or spaces.

Enter a number in the SMS Limit field if you wish to set a limit to the number of SMS's that can be sent out at once from a Bulk SMS screen.


Enter the SMS Subscription ID if your SMS Provider requires you to enter this information. 


Entering the SMS setup information into Chintaro (For Burst and Message Media REST API customers only)

If you are using Burst or Message Media REST API as your service provider, please disregard the instructions above and do the following:


In Chintaro, from the Home Screen > System Maintenance > Preferences> SMS enter your SMS Provider, SMS Sender (Default), and SMS Limit (optional). SMS User ID, Password and Subscription ID are blank. 


System Maintenance >Reference Tables > Parameters:

Scroll down in the middle section to the SMSAPI_KEY:



Enter the SMSAPI_KEY that you are provided by Burst or Message Media REST API in the Parm Text column.


Enter the SMSAPI_SECRET that you are provided by Burst or Message Media REST API in the Parm Text column.


For SMSGateway enter:


If you wish to set a limit to the number of SMS's that can be sent out at once from a Bulk SMS screen, enter that for SMSLimit in the Parm Number column. (If not entered in Preferences)


The SMSPassword isn't required.


The SMSSender field is the name of your Organisation that will appear on the SMS when your Client/Tenant/Tradesperson receives it. You are limited to 11 letters or numbers in this field, and you cannot use special characters or spaces. (If not entered in Preferences). 


For New Zealand users only: The SMSSender field should contain an NZ Short Code. If you're unsure what your Short Code is, please follow up with your provider. Be advised that these Short Codes are changed regularly, and you may need to contact your provider for the new one if your SMS functionality stops working.


Exit the screen by pressing the EXIT button on the blue banner at the top. You are now ready to send SMS's from Chintaro.
